Chad Releases Stripped Down Live Performance of “Descendants” for Black History Month

Hey guys,

I couldn’t be happier to release this video today. In honour of Black History Month, I wanted to perform a very raw version of my song “Descendants” and also bring awareness to a very important cultural and historical landmark in the city I grew up in, London Ontario.

In 1847, the Fugitive Slave Chapel was born and offered refuge and community to those fleeing from slavery and persecution in the states. In addition to being a safe haven for escaped slaves, it was a pillar in London’s early Black community as it served as a centre for abolitionist activities. This community later built Beth Emanuel Church in 1869, which continued the legacy of the Fugitive Slave Chapel and is where I perform in this video. The original Fugitive Slave Chapel still stands today next door to Beth Emanuel, but is in a state of disrepair and needs our help to preserve this important landmark and its legacy. Please join me in donating to the Fugitive Slave Chapel Preservation Project today and help preserve this historical landmark that deserves our attention and veneration.

This video would not be possible without the help of Darryl Lahteenmaa(director/editor), Steven Anderson (director of photography), Dave Dunlop (sound design), London Arts Council, London Heritage Council, Delta Mcneish, and George McNeish. Thank you all!
